Everything, Everything is a romantic and breathtaking young adult novel written by Nicola Yoon.

This book is about a 17-year-old girl named Madeline Whittier who has severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), meaning that she is basically allergic to the world.

Maddy lives with her mother who is practically her doctor. She also has a nurse, Carla, who comes to their home to check on Maddy. Madeline is immensely close with these two people since she sees them every day.

However, life changes for her when the new neighbors, Olly, and his family, move in next door. Olly catches Maddy’s eye and gives her his email by writing on the window. Soon, they start emailing and get to know each other.

The two become friends and want to meet in person. Olly wants to show Maddy everything she has missed out on her whole life. He decides to show her the world, refusing to believe that she could be allergic to everything. This makes Maddy discover new things about herself. Olly changes Maddy’s life by showing her things she has never seen before, letting her experience things she has never done before, and giving her emotions she has never felt before. Olly impacts Maddy in many ways, good and bad.

This book had a unique and stunning way of describing how love can happen for different people with different perspectives. This novel has romance, tragedy, and, most importantly, sacrifices. Olly and Madeline go to extremes and risk it all to make their relationship possible.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys feeling characters’ emotions, being left in suspense at the end of chapters, and realizing something new about life. This book could change your perspective on the world and how you view things.

Nicola Yoon wrote a remarkable novel with funny and relatable characters. This book opens your mind to new thoughts about perceiving an illness or disease and how that can affect someone’s life.
