This is a part of an on-going series about character biographies from the spring musical Big Fish.

John De Petris will be playing the role of Karl in Big Fish this year.

“In our production of Big Fish, I play the character, Karl. My character fits into the plot as Karl…one of many of [protagonist] Edward’s crazy stories, and he is Edward’s best friend as well.”

De Petris described Big Fish as a meaningful and emotional show.  De Petris’ role is important in this show because of the close relationship between Karl and Edward Bloom.

Of all the songs in Big Fish, De Petris’ favorite is “Start Over.” The song describes the time when Edward convinced his town, Ashton, to move away because of an incoming flood. With Karl and Amos’ help, Edward was able to save the people and create a new town.

While rehearsing, De Petris has enjoyed learning Karl’s character: “My favorite rehearsal moment was when I first started walking on stilts. It was a little scary at first, but after a lot of practice and with the help of Mr. Gardner, I was able to walk on stilts.”

Big Fish will be presented on March 24 at 7 p.m. and March 25 at 1 p.m. & 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students and seniors and $12 for Adults. If you are interested in tickets please contact [email protected]
